General Motors (GM) has recently initiated a significant recall affecting nearly 600,000 vehicles in the United States, including various Cadillac models, due to potential engine issues that could lead to engine damage or failure.

Overview of the Recall

The recall encompasses certain 2021–2024 models equipped with 6.2L V8 gas engines, specifically:

The issue stems from potential manufacturing defects in the connecting rod and crankshaft components, which may result in engine damage or failure. GM has linked this defect to 12 crashes and 12 injuries in the U.S.

Inspection and Repair Process

GM dealers will inspect the engines of affected vehicles and perform necessary repairs or replacements. For vehicles that pass inspection, GM will provide higher viscosity oil along with a new oil cap and filter.

Background and Investigation

This recall follows a January investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) into nearly 878,000 GM vehicles over similar engine failures. GM’s own review identified over 28,000 related complaints and incidents, including more than 14,000 cases of propulsion loss.
